Millicent Benson

Millie specialises in family law. She completed her pupillage at 1 King’s Bench Walk under the supervision of Harry Oliver, Nicola Fox and Nicholas Anderson. Prior to joining 1 King’s Bench Walk she worked for the Law Commission on their Property, Family and Trust Law Team.

Private Law Children – Millie regularly advises and appears in all areas of private law children work including disputes around contact, residency, parental responsibility and specific issues relating to schooling or holidays. She has experience in cases involving serious allegations of domestic violence, parental alienation, and those concerning leave to remove to Hague and non-Hague Convention countries. Millie has additional experience appearing in private law children arbitrations.

Finance & Divorce – Millie has a busy matrimonial finance practice, covering financial remedy proceedings, Schedule 1 and ToLATA claims. Millie also has experience advising and acting in enforcement proceedings. During her time at the Law Commission, Millie worked on the Matrimonial Property, Needs and Agreements report, as well as on the Enforcement of Family Financial Orders project.

Public Law Children – Millie is regularly instructed to act in all stages of public law proceedings and has acted for local authorities, parents and guardians. She has experience in cases involving a range of issues and allegations, including child sexual abuse, forced marriage, and the causation of non-accidental injuries to a child.

Child Abduction – During her pupillage, Millie was involved in all stages of child abduction work, including ex parte hearings and contested trials.

Domestic Violence and Injunctions – Millie has acted in all stages of Family Law Act proceedings and in cases involving applications for non-molestation, occupation and forced marriage prevention orders. She has been involved in urgent, without notice applications and has acted in cases involving serious allegations of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
