1 King's Bench Walk - Criminal Law Chamber London

QC

1kbw is a chamber in London, with QCs practicing criminal law among our specialisms. At the famous trial of Dr Bodkin Adams, the Eastbourne doctor acquitted of murdering his patients and presided over by the late Lord Devlin, it was 1kbw who provided the defence silk, Geoffrey Lawrence QC, later to become the Honourable Mr Justice Lawrence.

Sussex Connection

Our Sussex connection has been maintained and strengthened by our presence in Lewes at our premises in the High Street. Since those early days we have continued to build up a strong working relationship with solicitors throughout the South-East, both prosecuting and defending all types of criminal cases at all levels. Many of our leading QCs and juniors have undertaken high profile criminal cases in the Crown Court at Lewes and elsewhere. The more junior members regularly appear in the Crown and Magistrates' courts throughout the home counties.

Divisional Court Work

We have expanded our criminal specialism into Divisional Court work including appeals by way of case stated and judicial review. We expect developments in Human Rights litigation to result in a growth of work in this area.

Several QCs from our London chambers, from the criminal law team, have given lectures on the impact of the Human Rights Act 1988 and we are always happy to give talks on this and other important developments to our client firms. The Practice Manager will supply further details. Three members of our criminal law team are contributing editors to Archbold's "Criminal Pleading, Evidence and Practice".

London Chambers

Our London chamber has specialists in serious criminal fraud cases working for both for the prosecution and the defence. Our QCs have been involved in many lengthy high profile cases throughout the country.

Because of the expertise of our QCs in child care work we have experience of a large number of criminal cases involving serious and even fatal injuries to children. We can provide skilled advocates with the specialist ability to cover these cases where family, civil and criminal aspects of child work frequently overlap. As a set of criminal chambers, we are probably unique in that regard.

Members have regularly appeared before the General Medical Council instructed by the Medical Protection Society and the Medical Defence Union in the defence of doctors accused of serious disciplinary offences as well as appearances before other professional disciplinary tribunals.

In addition to offering our expertise to our private client base, members regularly accept instructions from the Treasury Solicitor, the Serious Fraud Office, H.M.Customs & Excise, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Environmental Agency.
