Each family law barrister is experienced in the complex and increasingly specialised area of Matrimonial Finance. We deal with claims for ancillary relief involving very substantial assets, difficult issues relating to holdings in private companies, disputes about interests in trusts whether here or off-shore (including discretionary trusts) and pension provision.

We frequently act in cases to prevent dissipation of assets or to secure the enforcement of orders of the court in this and other jurisdictions and the regulation of the use and occupation of property.

Often the disputes dealt with may be those difficult cases in which the assets the court has to allocate are insufficient, or only just sufficient, to provide for the parties and their children. They may also involve issues concerning insolvency.

Cohabiting Partners

Members of Chambers are experienced in advising and appearing in disputes between cohabiting partners where complicated arguments about ownership of assets and trust law are of great importance. They also act in cases brought under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 and applications for financial provision under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989.

Adoption and Child Disputes

Adoption is an important part of our work in family law. As well as appearing in domestic cases, barristers are founder members of the Intercountry Adoption Lawyers' Association and have been involved in a number of leading cases of applications to adopt children from abroad to include refugee children.

All aspects of international child disputes are covered to include abduction to and from non-Convention countries and the enforcement and registration of orders made in foreign countries. We are frequently instructed by the Lord Chancellor's Child Abduction Unit to secure the return of children to countries from which they may have been wrongfully removed.
