1 King’s Bench Walk are a barristers chambers based in Temple, London. There are three main areas of practice: Family, Criminal and Civil Law. Despite the fact that we are recognised as a leader in the field of Family Law, we are aware of the value in offering a range of services, as it is important for advocates to pick up a wide range of experience - particularly when beginning their careers.

London Barristers

We are able to trace our distinguished history as London barristers back to the 17th century, acknowledging that appreciation of the past helps shape, inform and secure the future. King's Bench Walk was at one time the promenade in front of the court of King’s Bench, which burned down in 1677. Number 1 was originally constructed in red brick around 1677-78 to designs by Sir Christopher Wren. In the 1790s, during the early part of Mr Justice Maule’s career, 1 King's Bench Walk was said to have been his chambers.

As well as the highest possible quality legal advice and advocacy, it is important that all London barristers provide a highly efficient level administration. At 1kbw we aim to maintain consistently high standards and continually improve them in order to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.

All of the barristers at our London chambers operate to a Quality Assurance Manual which details the various procedures involved in retaining a barrister, returning a brief, written work, billing and complaints. We can provide copies of the relevant sections on request. In recognition of the high level of service that we provide our chambers has been awarded Barmark and Quality Mark for the Bar.

Silks

We have a considerable number of barristers at 1kbw and are able to offer junior counsel at all levels of call in our practice areas. As one of the larger London sets, containing around 50 members, we are able to provide the client with an extensive choice of teams of counsel or individuals. We are also sufficiently small to retain the best qualities of the more traditional sets of barristers chambers. We communicate promptly and efficiently with each other and with our professional clients at all times, so as to ensure as smooth and effective a working process as possible.

Premises

We occupy fine premises in the Inner Temple, London, where we have a number of dedicated conference rooms. Access to 1kbw’s services is also available from our premises in Lewes where, if more convenient, we are also happy to hold conferences. In addition, members are willing to attend solicitors' offices if requested.
