Pupillage at 1 King's Bench Walk

We offer up to four, 12 month pupillages in the UK each year. Those taking part will receive an award of £17,500 during their first six (non-practising) months and will keep any earnings during the practising period of their second six months. During these second six months pupils do not pay Chambers rent or expenses. We are looking for pupillage applicants who are able to demonstrate a firm commitment to a career at the Bar, a good academic and/or employment record and a particular interest in the areas of UK law in which 1kbw specialises. Pupillage interviews are conducted by a panel representing a cross section of our practice areas and experience.

Pupillage Experience

During the pupillage there is the opportunity to experience all areas of chambers work. We aim to ensure that the pupillage experience is as varied as possible. All travel expenses incurred whilst accompanying a pupil-supervisor are re-imbursed and Chambers will fund any training which it may require a pupil to undertake. At 1kbw it is our policy to recruit junior tenants from our current pupils.

We are looking for pupils who are personable, self confident and have the ability to inspire confidence in our clients. They will be focused, intelligent and enthusiastic individuals with a good academic record and a commitment to providing excellent standards of client care.

In addition, we offer mini pupillages during term time. These take place over a week and are only available to those who are undertaking or who have completed their first degree course. This work mainly involves family law and takes place in term time. Occasionally mini pupillages are offered at our Lewes offices, where the focus is more on criminal work.

We offer in the region of thirty mini pupillages annually. Due to limited numbers, applications should generally be made as soon as possible.
