Richard Barton has chosen to maintain a mixed practice, as he believes that a wide breadth of experience is an advantage as an advocate. As Treasury Counsel, he is expected to be able to handle cases in a wide range of subject areas. He has considerable experience in the following areas:
Crime Both Defence and Prosecution (CPS and Customs & Excise) work, in all categories of crime, including child sex abuse, fraud and juvenile cases.
Family Children, both private and public law; acting for parents, guardians (including the Official Solicitor) and local authorities.
Employment Acting for both Applicants and Respondents in ETs and the EAT.
Judicial Review Typically, JRs arising out of criminal and family matters.
General Civil All types of civil actions against the police, personal injury, and general contract and tort claims. This work includes acting on behalf of large financial institutions.
