Special Forum Event on Parental Alienation involving Deborah Eaton QC and Stephen Jarmain attracts huge turnout

A special event took place at Withers LLP on 24 May 2016 to discuss the issues surrounding parental alienation. The discussion was led by Lisa Fabian Lustigman of Withers LLP and the distinguished panel included:

  • Deborah Eaton QC
  • Stephen Jarmain
  • Dr Mark Berelowitz, Consultant Child Psychiatrist, Royal Free Hospital
  • Sarah Brooks, Independent Social Worker
  • Karen Woodall, Lead Therapist, Family Separation Clinic
  • Dr Florian Ruths, Consultant Psychiatrist & Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

The event attracted a large turnout and was attended by many leading family lawyers. The meeting generated considerable debate and in depth discussion about the nature and causes of parental alienation, the difficulties it presents for parents, lawyers and professionals and the remedies available to tackle the problem. The overwhelming view of the panel and audience was that the issue demanded greater attention and that more should be done within the family justice system to ameliorate the harm caused to children and families. The conference will be written up in the Family Law Journal in the near future.
