Having completed a family law pupillage, Markanza has concentrated on this area throughout her career at the bar. She is predominantly a Children’s law practitioner with vast experience in both public and private law matters.

In public law she has experience of representing local authorities, parents , Guardians and children direct. She is particularly sought after in complex cases involving allegations of non accidental injury and sexual abuse.

In private law Markanza covers all areas including residence, contact, adoption, internal and external relocation. She also deals with child abduction, having been a trustee of Reunite for many years.

Markanza also deals with ancillary relief and schedule 1 cases. She brings her experience both as a barrister and DDJ to these cases.

Cases of interest

In the past 12 months Markanza has been involved in two cases where the father killed the mother. The circumstances of both being reported in the National Press.

She has also deal with a highly complex case where the mother faced allegations of factitious illness in respect of a child who suffered a life limiting illness.
