Peter Newman is a specialist family barrister with particular expertise in matrimonial finance and divorce, disputes between cohabitants pursuant to TOLATA 1996 and financial relief for children pursuant to Schedule I of the Children Act 1989.

Peter often appears in high value cases with leading counsel and is experienced at all levels (up to and including The Court of Appeal), including advisory work in other jurisdictions such as Hong Kong and the Turks and Caicos. Peter was junior counsel in JKN v JCN (divorce: forum) [2010] All ER (D) 69 (May), which is a leading authority on the application of the doctrine of forum non conveniens in divorce proceedings that are within Brussels IIbis. He regularly lectures in matrimonial finance both in London and nationally.

In addition Peter regularly advises and acts in complex and acrimonious Private law children applications and in cases involving international law and child abduction. He also accepts instructions to act in The Court of Protection.
